Slop Oil is a recovered petroleum mixture generated during refinery operations, tank cleaning, drainage and petroleum handling. It contains varying proportions of hydrocarbons, water, sediments and other residues. Its appearance can range from light yellow or brown to dark black, depending on its source and the treatment applied.
Slop Oil is commonly processed to recover usable hydrocarbons. Treatment may include settling, water separation, centrifugation and filtration to reduce moisture and suspended solids. The recovered oil may then be returned for refinery processing or evaluated for suitable blending and industrial fuel applications.
